I was emailing a good friend of mine yesterday and was telling her about an experience I had at lunch recently that has left me utterly perplexed!
Is is just me, or is it totally unacceptable to take your
teeth out at ANY restaurant and set them on the table while you eat,
PERIOD! I typically am pretty understanding that people have odd idiosyncrasies when they go out to dinner. Some people get angry at the waiter/waitress when they don't have a refill before their glass is even empty. Some people can't eat while others are looking so they wulf down the little food they order while you are talking with others. This thing with the teeth though is to me, a jump across a cultural line. Lady... I don't need to see your teeth looking at me when I am trying to eat. Besides, you are going to need them for the rack of ribs and the corn on the cob you just ordered! If nothing else, put them in your coat because if I see 'em again... you better tell people your from Arkansas because your teeth are mine!
I also would like to point out that just because you are over 100 does not give anyone the right to bend over... slowly might I add... And rip a juicy air biscuit 16 inches from my person and not give the common courtesy of an "excuse me" or even an "oops"! That's right, the same lady whos chops were glaring at me from the next table, dropped her fork on the floor, got up from the table, did an about-face and planted her backside approximately 1.5 feet from my breaded chicken sandwich and let 'er fly. Not a quiet love fluff, or a crackling air pop, but this was one of those where you need to check your shorts afterwards! After my face turned from purple to red and then back to the lovely shade of green it was for the next couple hours, I realized a couple of things. FIRST, I was not hungry any longer. Second. Jurassic Gas never turned around and said a word to apologize for ruining my meal and a small part of my life! She just turned around and sat down and began attacking (or should I say gumming) those ribs.
What has become of our society when we have gotten to this point? I am afraid for my children and my children's children. What will they have to put up with? Whatever it is... I hope that you each take a moment to think about what you can do to stem the tide of this for future generations.
